Integrity, Honesty and Empathy

Our Story

We are Amar khan & Jane Jones lived in Stockland Green for over 30 years. We are standing as your Independent Candidate because our community deserves better. We are stepping up to make real change happen.

As elected representatives of Stockland Green, we stood with Labour in 2022, but we can no longer support a party that has destroyed Birmingham’s financial stability and abandoned its communities.

Our duty is to the people of Stockland Green, which is why we chose to fight for our community as independent representative

Our Motivation

Political parties have taken the public for granted. They’ve ignored working-class people and treated local communities like ours with contempt. People are fed up with councillors who turn up once every few years asking for votes but do nothing between elections. That’s why we are running as an Independent Candidates — to fight for Stockland Green, not for any party. we will be accountable only to YOU — not party donors or anyone.

Amar Khan – Independent Councillor

Amar Khan was born and bred in Erdington. He attended Erdington Hall School and Kingsbury School, now known as Academy Academy. Amar’s family settled in Erdington in the 1970s and remain firmly rooted between Stockland Green and Gravelly Hill, where generations have lived, worked, and contributed to the community.

From a young age, Amar has been involved in grassroots community work. His commitment to supporting local people led to him being elected in 2022 as a Labour councillor, driven by a desire to give back to the community that shaped him.

Amar worked closely with the late Jack Dromey MP, as well as local councillors and community groups across Stockland Green, supporting residents, tackling issues, and pushing for improvements across the ward.

Amar has since resigned from the Labour Party, feeling that the Labour-run council has:

  • Mishandled bin services
  • Presided over under-assessment in council tax
  • Failed to address the equal pay liability
  • Contributed to Birmingham City Council’s financial difficulties

He believes residents—especially in Stockland Green—deserve better. Amar continues to serve as an Independent Councillor, focused entirely on residents, not party politics. His mission remains:

To work hard, stand up for local people, and deliver for Stockland Green.

Jane Jones – Independent Councillor

Jane Jones has been involved in politics for nearly 40 years. Her son served as a councillor in Stockland Green Ward for 12 years, continuing a long-standing family commitment to the community. Jane also worked closely with the late Jack Dromey MP, serving as his secretary for seven years and as a caseworker, supporting residents with their local issues and ensuring their voices were heard.

Alongside her political work, Jane has had a distinguished career as a social worker and teacher, giving her a deep understanding of the challenges facing families and communities. She has always believed in positive change and helping residents with practical, local issues—something she has dedicated her life to doing.

Jane has now resigned from the Labour Party, feeling it can no longer stand up for the people it represents and that councillors may be pressured to follow party direction rather than residents’ needs. She has consistently stood up for residents, including voting against budgets and cuts she believes unfairly impact local communities. Jane has fought for:

  • Funding for youth services
  • Better alleyway cleaning and waste management
  • Increased police presence to improve safety

Despite leaving Labour, Jane remains committed to serving Stockland Green Ward as an Independent Councillor, ensuring residents’ voices are heard and their needs are prioritised above politics.

Why We Chose to Leave Labour

Joint Statement from Councillor Jane Jones and Councillor Amar Khan

We stepped away from the Labour Party after reaching a point where we could no longer speak openly about the issues that mattered to us and our residents. The party structure increasingly limited our ability to raise concerns honestly — even on everyday matters affecting Stockland Green

Key Reasons for Our Resignation

We often felt restricted from expressing the concerns of residents or challenging decisions that directly impacted local services and community wellbeing.

Despite repeated concerns from residents, the issues persisted, and we were not able to effectively address or escalate them

The financial burden caused by the council’s equal pay settlements placed extreme strain on local budgets and frontline services

Many members of our community care deeply about global concerns, including the situation in Palestine and Jammu & Kashmir. We believed these issues deserved acknowledgement and open discussion, but we were limited in what we could say.

Labour has abandoned the people it once claimed to represent. Instead of standing up for working families, they have drifted toward regressive rhetoric that mimics the far-right.

Under Keir Starmer, the party can find money for war, but cannot find money to feed struggling families at home.
They have cut SEN funding, and normalised the idea that residents should take their own rubbish to local tips—rather than receiving a reliable bin service.

Labour spent £50,000 a day undermining the bin strike, slashing bin workers’ wages by £8,000.
We have since discovered that there was no legitimate reason to issue a Section 114 bankruptcy notice.
There was money in the budget, but Labour chose to use the crisis to push through political cuts.

Financial mismanagement is at the heart of what has gone wrong:

  • Massive overspend on the Oracle system

  • £500,000 overpaid to West Midlands Police

  • Loss of local control to unelected commissioners making cuts that residents never voted for

As a result, the people of Birmingham are paying more and receiving less:

  • Council tax has risen by 17%

  • Public services have been cut by 40%

  • Youth services closed

  • Adult day care centres shut

  • Public assets sold off wholesale

You know there’s a problem when you have to sell your home just to pay the heating bill.

That isn’t leadership — it’s failure, and our community deserves better.
